Just a quick note from Lake Arrowhead

Just a quick note from Lake Arrowhead (Grass Valley fire and the Slide Fire)

Here a few sample images from Staging. The whole world is here to help. I have seen engines from Aspen, Gig Harbor (Washington State), Huckleberry (Idaho), and small depts.. from dotting New Mexico as well any California Fire dept who can muster breathing bodies. Last night there must have been over a hundred fire trucks, water tenders, fire crews and support team lined up ready to be mobilized.

Sorry I do not have any images from our (Strike team XCZ 6331 - Santa Cruz County) specific efforts but we are working at night protecting homes and strengthening fire lines (mop-up).

Take care and hope to send more images soon!

Side note - the fist night we slept in a prison (mind you it was minimal security, but razor wire and high fences are still a bit unnerving), last night we slept on the fire line, tonight it is in a gym (got to love those hard wood floors). Food has been remarkably digestive and the team work / positive attitude has been admirable.

News from Lance

Lance is currently assigned to the Grass Valley Fire. They are at a base camp located at Rim of the World High School somewhere off Highway 18. They are sharing base camp with the Slide Fire. The strike team leader is John Ritchey of Santa Cruz Central Fire, and the Asst. Strike Team Leader is Jim Delucchi of Aptos Fire.

Last night they pulled stumps all night on Division A and they are back in base camp getting a full nights sleep tonight. Lance says there is lots of hurry up and wait.

The engines on the team are Ben Lomond 2211, Aptos/La Selva 3511, La Honda 357, County Fire 3920, and UCSC 2710. While three of the Engines are type 1, 3920 is a type 2 and 357 is a type 3. That makes them a little tough to attach to an assignment.

Their incident is being run by a Type 1 IMT (Incident Management Team) that is also running the Slide Fire. Their fire is at about 95% contained and they expect to be reassigned or released tomorrow.
